A taste of history at The Arcade!

The Arcade Bristol is positively steeped in history - from our groundbreaking indie traders, to our beautiful Grade II*-listed Georgian architecture. But now, there's a new way to see the astonishing history of The Arcade firsthand - in photo form!

Thanks to our talented team of archivists, designers and decorators, we have a brand new window display across Unit 10, just inbetween Shakeaway's delectable delights and Maya's top notch eyebrow and beauty care - two great examples of the diversity in services at our Arcade.

The display depicts a black-and-white photo from 1940(!) - when the Arcade was subject to some serious bombing in the Bristol Blitz. Sadly, this lead to the destruction of what was called the Upper Arcade.

However, Bristol is never one to be knocked down and not get up again. In the photo on display, we can see the Principal of the School of Architecture at the time, Gordon Hake, sat amid the ruins - quite happily sketching away! It's easy to forget that The Arcade is so old, given our community of indie shopkeepers bring such bold and contemporary ideas to all their fields, but we've been here since 1825 - and we don't have plans to go anywhere, any time soon!

So, why not come down and give the display a look - or just get a firsthand look at our breathtaking Grade II*-listed architecture. Then, you've got the perfect chance to grab a tasty milkshake, some authentic neapolitan food, go on a vintage shopping spree, get a tattoo, get your tailoring done, get your haircut, have a dental checkup, keys cut, engraving, vape rigs, African style - well, you get the idea. Anything you might need, we've got you covered.

The Arcade Bristol - serving Bristol since 1825. That's 198 years - and counting! See you soon!
